During November and December our classes will focus on easy, gift items that will allow knitters to try new techniques on a small scale. We are keeping our projects on the very practical side in hopes that everyone in your family circle will have a hat, mittens, scarf, or socks made with love to warm them through the winter months.
Mittens to dye for: We found this great kit idea at the Eastern States Exposition Fiber Nook. Picture a mason jar filled with a pair of natural colored mittens, a couple of packs of Kool-Aid and dying directions. The mittens are beginner rated, knit on straight needles. If you’re a kid at heart, our last class will be devoted to teaching you a fast, eco-friendly dyeing method in the microwave or let the kids do the dying themselves.
Flip Top Mittens in Schaefer Lola – the “mitten with a convertible top” For the “special” family and friends, these mittens knit in hand-dyed superwash merino yarn from Schaefer yarns and are a pleasure to knit and wear.
If you have heard the topic of “magic loop” batted about and are intrigued, we are teaching this method to knit mittens. This method has been touted by sock knitters everywhere but we realize not everyone like to knit socks, so sockphobics – this is for you.
Sunday weaving workshop returns so anyone with zero experience can go home with a finished scarf, a great stash buster.
Not a knitter but crafty? If you have friends that fit this category, bring them to our one-night Buttonware class to create “artsy” boutique pins.
Purists can join our very traditional 4-needle sock class for beginners (with a very patient teacher).
